Sun Valley Estates located on the Sun Coast of Florida in Tarpon Springs, Pinellas County, was established in the early 1970's in what was once an orange grove. This is the most scenic section of Florida. The 2004 census showed Tarpon Springs had 22,554 residents of which the Greek-Americans have the highest percentage population of any city in the U.S.A.
Our community consists of 255 homes. It has been rated as a 5-star mobile home park for most of its existence and is currently being upgraded by most residents since the lull in the economy in 2008. This retirement community gives a person everything he/she/they need to keep active and healthy. The Park has a Homeowners Association Board to deal with any problems between residents and management and an Activities Club that handles the entertainment, dinners in the park, dances, etc.
This is a 55+ community that is a well maintained and friendly Park. It is conveniently located minutes from shopping, hospital, gulf beaches and the historic Tarpon Springs sponge docks. Clearwater Beach is only a 25 minute drive, Tampa 35 minutes and Orlando is 1 1/2 hours away. The Park has many activities i.e., card room, library, fitness center, billiards, darts, bingo (every Wednesday night), shuffle board courts, heated swimming pool and a clubhouse with many scheduled events.
Tarpon Springs is also noted for its Epiphany celebration every year on January 6th with the blessing of the water and boats. A wooden cross is thrown into the city's spring bayou and boys ages 16-18 dive in retrieve it. Whoever recovers the cross is said to be blessed for a full year. Taking a trip out into the bayou with a full-fledged Greek diver for sponges is also something historical and interesting as it is an art disappearing due to lack of experienced divers.
Sun Valley Estates is an excellent location for many wonderful sight-seeing adventures and a great place to consider for retirement as it offers everything you could ever want to enjoy your later years.
